MICC Participants Enjoy Another Incredible Day at the Els for Autism Game ON Golf Clinic

MICC ElsForAustim

For the fourth consecutive year, MICC participants had the opportunity to attend the Els for Autism Game ON Golf Clinic, held this year at The Minikahda Club in partnership with First Tee Minnesota. This annual event has become a favorite tradition for many MICC participants and reflects the growing partnership between MICC, Els for Autism, and First Tee Minnesota, organizations united by a shared commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for autistic individuals to learn, grow, and thrive.

The Els for Autism Golf Clinic is designed specifically for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), utilizing evidence-based practices to teach golf while building confidence, communication skills, emotional regulation, motor development, and social connections. The clinic creates an inclusive environment where participants can challenge themselves, celebrate successes, and enjoy the game alongside peers and supportive coaches.

The afternoon began with a fun and engaging introduction to the game. Participants learned about the different golf clubs, their unique purposes, and how golfers use them in various situations on the course. With clubs in hand and excitement in the air, the group headed to the driving range where laughter, encouragement, and plenty of impressive swings filled the afternoon.

Following time on the range and a well-earned snack break, participants moved to the practice greens to focus on putting. First Tee Minnesota coaches introduced the putter and explained how speed, direction, and the contours of the green influence each shot. Participants worked through a variety of putting challenges, building confidence, accuracy, and control with every attempt.

One of the highlights of the day came when MICC participant Matt sank a long putt, drawing cheers from participants, coaches, and spectators alike. Throughout the clinic, the spirit of encouragement was unmistakable. Every swing, chip, and putt was met with support, celebration, and motivation to keep trying.

To cap off a memorable day, participants, volunteers, and supporters gathered for dinner together. During the evening program, MICC Chief Advancement Officer Ben Lentz shared information about MICC’s mission and programs with attendees. MICC participants Ann and Graham joined him to share their personal experiences and the impact MICC has had on their lives. Their stories provided a powerful reminder of what is possible when individuals are given opportunities to learn, belong, and succeed.

Participants were eager to share their favorite moments from the day.

“I’m glad we were able to use a driver this year. I love to crush the ball!” said Graham.

“This is a really fun event. I’m glad I came this year,” added Holt.

MICC participant and accomplished photographer Grant Scobbie was also on hand to capture the excitement and joy throughout the event, preserving memories that participants and families will cherish.

We are incredibly grateful to Els for Autism, First Tee Minnesota, The Minikahda Club, and all of the volunteers who continue to make this experience possible. Partnerships like these create opportunities that extend far beyond the golf course building confidence, fostering friendships, and helping individuals discover new interests and abilities.

We look forward to continuing this wonderful partnership for years to come and are already excited for next year’s clinic.
