MICC participant and 2024 graduate Dinah had the opportunity to share her story in a digital essay with Minnesota Women’s Press this month! Published alongside an essay from the Autism Society of Minnesota’s Zephyr James to celebrate Autism Acceptance Month, Dinah’s essay tells the story of her diagnosis with a non-verbal learning disorder and eventually autism, now living an independent, vibrant life as part of the MICC community.
Dinah shares, “I know ways that my autism is a strength. I’m artistic and creative; I love to do henna, make friendship bracelets, dance, sing, write, draw, color, and paint. I’ve also discovered that I’m hilarious and know how to be a good friend by being sweet, outgoing, bubbly, and making people laugh. My autism diagnosis has helped me better understand myself, my disability, and what I need to be happy and productive.”
