On August 4th, MICC participants had an incredible time at the Els for Autism Golf Clinic hosted at The Club at Golden Valley, in collaboration with the amazing coaches from First Tee Minnesota—and we can’t thank them enough for their energy, patience, and expertise.

This clinic focuses on teaching golf to individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) using evidence-based practices. Throughout the day, participants engaged in various golf activities while also practicing important skills such as communication, emotional regulation, motor skills, and social interactions.

The day kicked off with a fun icebreaker: participants were challenged to balance two golf balls on top of each other—a lot trickier than it sounds, and a lot of laughs were shared! Everyone also received their own golf ball to keep, and each one added a unique signature to mark the memory.

We then divided into three groups and rotated through hands-on sessions led by the First Tee Minnesota coaches. From chipping drills to putting challenges, participants practiced their skills while cheering each other on and celebrating every small victory.

One of the best parts of the day? The encouragement and camaraderie—every putt, chip, or near miss was met with smiles and motivation to try again.

To top off a perfect afternoon, we shared a delicious dinner together. Over the meal, everyone reflected on their favorite moments:

Graham said, “I had so much fun being out on the course that I want to do this every year now!”

Kayla shared, “I was really happy when I chipped the ball into the hula hoop!”

During dinner, MICC Chief Advancement Officer Ben Lentz had the opportunity to share a slideshow about MICC programs with the attendees. MICC participant and accomplished photographer Grant Scobbie tagged along to capture the action of the day!

Thank you again to all the participants, families, and especially the First Tee Minnesota coaches who helped make this event such a success. We can’t wait for the next one!
