MICC Graduates join Team Minnesota Weekend at Treasure Island

In September 2025, Special Olympics Team Minnesota athletes, families, and supporters gathered at Treasure Island for a fun and meaningful weekend as they prepare for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. Our very own MICC graduates Kayla (‘20, unified golf), Michael (‘24, soccer), and Aaron (‘24, soccer) were onsite to enjoy the fun! Read our previous blog post announcing their selection for Team Minnesota here.

The schedule was packed with activities. Aaron shared that the weekend consisted of “practice, uniform fittings and headshot pictures, Team MN photos, and evening entertainment — including a magician!” Athletes and families enjoyed shared meals together and an informational session about the upcoming Games.

One highlight? A surprise fashion show where athletes had the chance to model the brand-new Team Minnesota soccer jerseys! Michael shared, “I was selected to be part of a fashion show during the weekend to show off the Team MN soccer jerseys! It was a fun surprise.”

The info session also gave families a preview of what’s ahead:

  • 3,000 athletes from across the country will compete at the USA Games (June 20–26, 2026)
  • 16 sports will be hosted at the University of Minnesota and Blaine Sports Center.
  • Special Olympics Minnesota will proudly send a delegation of 245 athletes, Unified partners, and coaches to compete in 14 different sports.
  • The 2026 Special Olympics USA Games will also bring together 1,500 coaches, 10,000 volunteers, and 75,000 fans.

Together, through the power of sports and inclusion, the Games will create memories and inspire change that lasts far beyond the week of competition.

We couldn’t be more thrilled to follow our MICC graduates as they journey toward the USA Games! These next few months will be full of practice and preparation. We will be sure to update with more details of how they’re fine tuning their skills to face the competition!
