Community participant, Andrew Sjostrom LOVES to get out on his bicycle whenever the weather allows. While he doesn’t always bring a lunch, he always brings snack and his camera! On his biking adventures, he finds wonderful and unusual sights to capture with his camera.
Andrew’s first photography exhibit opened January 2nd and runs through March 30th (details below). Andrew is a patient photographer, waiting for just the right moment to capture an image. He was inspired and mesmerized by the documentary of Jim Brandenburg’s work, Chased by the Light, at the Brandenburg Gallery in Luverne, Minnesota as a younger boy. For Chased by the Light, Brandenburg set himself the task of taking only one photograph a day for the ninety days of fall. Andrew has embraced this patience when out taking photographs.
He enjoys taking photos of nature, important places, and the cityscape. Some of his favorite subjects are animals, especially squirrels, birds, and the animals at the Minnesota Zoo. He has a unique, observant eye for capturing images and details often overlooked. The result is a wide array of insightful images and unusual perspectives.
Photography has been a serious interest of Andrew’s since he took photography classes with Zack (pictured above with Andrew) and Sarah through MICC. After the classes ended, Andrew continued to use what he learned and has become a more accomplished photographer. As his skill has improved, so have his cameras. Having started with a pocket sized, pint-and-shoot camera, he now uses his iPhone and the Canon PowerShot.
You can count on Andrew to be taking photos of all the distinctive, fun things he discovers wherever he travels or wherever his bike takes him!
