The success of MICC’s programs wouldn’t be possible without the participation of employers in hosting practicums and experiential learning experiences in addition to job placement. MICC partners with organizations across the Twin Cities including Best Buy, Target, Walgreens, Fresh Thyme, CVS, Lunds & Byerlys and more. According to the US Department of Labor, companies that are leaders in disability inclusion have 28% higher revenue, double their net income and have 30% higher economic profit margins.

Employ Participants

MICC participants apply, interview and want to earn their jobs on their merits as great employees. When you hire a MICC participant, you have both an employee and the support of a job developer to help navigate onboarding, ensure great communication, assist with performance issues, and help navigate training for mutual success.

MICC participants have a great deal to offer employers. Find out more by contacting our Careers team today!

Host a Practicum

MICC practicums are hands-on learning experiences led by an employee of your business or organization. It’s a great way for an organization to make an impact in the lives of autistic and neurodivergent adults and experience the benefits of working with MICC participants.

A practicum provides participants with real-world experience in understanding the order of operations in daily tasks, learning etiquette for a professional environment, and practicing strong communication with coworkers and customers. As participants develop job skills, they gain independence in their assigned responsibilities and experience what it’s like to be accountable to expectations and successful in their duties.

Host a Tour or Shadow Day

MICC participants love hearing from industry experts and experiencing a variety of workplaces. Sometimes participants can struggle to see themselves in these environments and it’s inspiring for them to connect with employees and leaders in an industry that they’re considering making a career.

Typical tours include:

  • Groups from 5-20 participants plus instructors.

  • Length: 30 to 60 minutes.

  • Typical Content: Exposure to the work environment and jobs with a focus on entry-level positions within the organization. Experiences may include a tour of the space, observation of jobs, discussions with a manager and employees.

Points to discuss:

  • What are your day-to-day responsibilities?

  • What qualifications or education is required for the job role?

  • What top skills are important for this job?

  • What is your favorite part of your job?

  • What is the most challenging part of your job?

  • What is the pace of work in this role?

  • Is there room to grow and advance within the organization?

  • Why would someone want to work in this job role?

Shadow days are for MICC participants to experience 1:1 a day in the life of one of your employees.

Be a Guest Speaker

Guest speakers can cover a variety of topics! From sharing about your current work, your career journey or a specific topic you are passionate about as well as customer service, leadership, or tips for a successful interview.

Guest speakers collaborate with one of our Careers’ instructors to determine a topic. Presentations are typically 30 to 60 minutes in length.

Host Informational Interviews

An informational interview is a casual conversation between an MICC participant and you as a professional in your field of interest. The aim is to learn about your experiences and gain insight into your job, industry and organization. It is a great way for a participant to learn if a job aligns with their interests and personality. Informational interviews can be conducted in person, over the phone or via video call and typically last 20 to 30 minutes.

Join Us for a Mock Interview Day

MICC staff and a handful of employers join us on campus for mock interviews. You perform an interview for a typical job at your company and the participant practices their interview skills. It’s a quick and easy way to be involved and it’s fun, too!

“There are extremely talented individuals who identify as neurodivergent and on the spectrum at all levels of employment, from entry-level to executives at Fortune 500 companies. Their contributions will bring a different perspective to your conversations, your designs, your culture, your customer experience. “
— Amy Gudmestad, MICC CEO
