| Mercer Island Covenant Church | Advent 2011 Newsletter |
Greetings from Mercer Island Covenant Church,
Don't you love Christmas?
 | |
Pastor Jon Peterson |
This year we are using the theme: UNWRAPPING CHRISTMAS. (cute, huh?)
We are going to be using the energy and traditions and the music of the season to look at the GIFTS God gave us... I hope from a fresh and helpful perspective.
After Advent we'll go with that time honored tradition of looking at the year to come and who we want to be. I'm not sure we'll go so far as talking RESOLUTIONS, but for sure we will talk about THE YOU YOU'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE.
It promises to be a great time to be worshipping together at MICC.
Blessings, |

RESOLUTIONS you say?
I'm glad you mentioned them. When we think New Year's resolutions we often think about losing some weight and getting into shape. We have the perfect opportunity for you. Beginning January 8 we will begin a six week class called SHAPE.
You will discover how you are SHAPED for serving God and others as we learn about Spiritual Gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality and Experience. God has uniquely made each of us and given us gifts that we can best serve Him with joy, fulfillment, and fruitfulness.
This class will be Sunday mornings from 9:45-10:45 in Fellowship Hall. Come unwrap your gifts and get into SHAPE. |

Christianity 101 - Winter Quarter
The next Christianity 101 class will begin Sunday morning February 26 from 9:45-10:45. This class teaches the following topics: what is Christianity, what is the church, what is THIS church, prayer and the Bible.
The class will be held upstairs in the south room of Fellowship Hall with a "Christianity 101" sign posted outside. This rotating class will be offered each quarter. If you happen to miss any of the five classes you are welcome to attend another when it is offered the next quarter. This class is ideal for those who are new to Mercer Island Covenant Church or new to Christianity. |

Women Ministries Bible Studies
The PRECEPTS study on the Gospel of John meets on Thursday mornings from 8:45-12:00. Dawn Omdahl is the teacher. Women are encouraged to join at any time! This study will conclude on June 14, 2012. Please contact Tami Palmberg (206) 232-0539 for more information.
Our Thursday Evening Bible study is currently taking a winter hiatus. This is for the safety of our women, so they don't have to be out on slick roads at night in the wintertime. We will begin again March 15th with the second half of our study in Revelation.
The 1st Tuesday of the Month Bible Study led by Crystal Bauer continues with their study of Women of the Bible on December 6 from 6:30-8:30pm.

Becoming A Love & Logic Parent
This seminar will be held at MICC beginning on January 26, with six following weeks on 2/2, 2/9, 2/16, 3/1, 3/8, and 3/15. "Love and Logic" provides simple and practical techniques to help parents with kids of all ages:
- Raise responsible kids
- Have more fun in their role
- Easily and immediately change their children's behavior
L&L will help parents prepare their kids for the real world, not just protect them from it. L&L raises the odds of raising kids who are respectful, responsible, and fun to be with! For more information about this great opportunity, please see Pastor Julie.

Hospitality & Friendship
Friendliness is such an important ministry of MICC. I'm sure that all would agree how much the feeling of being warmly welcomed sticks with us whether at church, joining a club, or when attending a party.
As Deacon of Hospitality and Friendship, I try to help newcomers feel comfortable by briefly getting acquainted and introducing them to people they haven't yet met. It is always my hope that this relationship will not "end in the narthex," but that those who are already a part of MICCwill follow up to help newcomers assimilate quickly. We all must be involved. read more... |

Christmas In Flight
A very special evening concert here at Mercer Island Covenant Church is coming Saturday, December 10.
And it's perfect for guests.
The evening will have two events rolled into one. Our Celebration Choir will continue its fine tradition of wonderful carols and Christmas anthem 'gems' that will rekindle memories and foster faith. After a brief intermission, Taproot Theater will present a one-act play entitled "Christmas in Flight." Veronica convinces her husband to book a last minute flight to LA right at Christmas, and various fellow travelers help reveal why she is trying to escape her family this year.
The program is at 7:30pm, and FREE tickets are available on Sundays in the lobby. Invite your friends! Seating is limited. Childcare for kids 8 and under will be provided by reservation. (Please contact Pastor Julie.) |
