Although
I missed the Mother’s day brunch I heard it was a great
success. Included are pictures of a fine group of
servant leaders in our church. The mountain men who
served cleaned up nicely and impressed the ladies. “I
feel like I am 25 again,” one lady was heard saying, so
I guess it was a mission accomplished at honoring the
women in our lives. I would have loved to be there, but
instead I was in Phoenix getting my humor extracted.
This was the part of my PhD program where I learned a
sense of humor has no place in academic writing. What a
shock, much of the stuff I have read on philosophy I
thought was meant to be funny..
Special
thanks to our 2008 Women’s Spring Brunch Servants: Jerry
Adams, Pete Baird, Ray Brook, Tim Davis, Shawn Davis,
Dick Elkins, Gordon Grob, Jim Jansen, Mark Knoll, Al
Lopus, Dan Lottis, Ken Lottis, Kent Lottis, Nate Luce,
Spencer Luce, Floyd Morrow, Tom Neely, Joseph Scheid,
Barry Steel, and Jack Tuttle
Also pictured is a familiar pose of Bill
and Anita Lex, along with a picture of two of the men
who put in more unheralded service than anyone I know,
Mark Knoll and Gordon Grob. These four people present a
model to which we should all aspire. From all reports it
sounded like Joseph Scheid did a great job; nothing blew
up, no fires and the ladies thought he was cute. I guess
it’s not too bad to call a rough and tumble, manly man
like Joseph cute.
This month, on June 14, Blair Rasmussen, former NBA
star, director of the Boys and Girls Club and the person
behind the PEAK project on Mercer Island, will speak on
leading a legacy in the community. This breakfast
promises to be another great time and an ideal
opportunity to invite that neighbor you’ve been thinking
about. June is the last men’s breakfast for this season.
We start back up in September, but please save the date
of November 14-15 for the Promise Keepers event at the
Tacoma Dome. We all want to support Jerry Adams in his
quest to hold 50 front row seats while the rest of us
enjoy a leisurely jaunt down to the Tacoma Dome.
In between the big events and all summer
long there is always an opportunity to get together with
a men’s group. Our small groups are all open to anyone.
If you are interested, contact our fearless leader Ray
Brook and he will fill you in on where you can get
plugged in with a group.
