More
than a Half-Century of Growth
Mercer Island Covenant Church (MICC) began in May of 1949
with 35 people meeting in a member’s home.
The church was formally organized and affiliated with the
Evangelical Covenant Church of America in 1951.
Pastors in the church’s early history included Charles
Nelson, Ernie Hansen, Robert Larson and Leroy Carlson.
Bud Palmberg became pastor in 1967 and the church expanded
rapidly through the 70s and 80s. This growth resulted in the
expansion of the church facilities and sanctuary we use
today.
With the arrival of Pastor Eric Newberg in 1994, the church
transitioned to a more contemporary style of worship,
utilizing the newly renovated sanctuary with computerized
projection equipment and an enlarged platform to make room
for a praise band and drama. Upgrades to worship technology
have continued since.

Today, under the leadership of Pastor Greg Asimakoupoulos,
the church offers a wide variety of worship services and
supports over twenty different ministries.
